President’s Letter
In 2019, the Amarillo Area Foundation highlighted our work building connections in the community through our Bridging the Panhandle message. This theme has been a consistent guide for the Foundation for more than 60 years. In everything we do, we try to serve the constituents of the Texas Panhandle by investing in resources that benefit us all.
The first goal of the Amarillo Area Foundation was to develop a medical campus in Amarillo that would benefit not only the residents of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle, but would also draw patients from 5 states to receive quality care. Since then, we have invested in rural healthcare as well. The result is a region that continues to excel in providing care and a network of providers that bridge urban and rural communities.
In 2019, we are still working to build these vital connections. Through The Panhandle Gives, our traditional grant and scholarship programs, the Nonprofit Leadership Academy, and similar programs, we continue to work to improve quality of life for Panhandle residents. We are the most effective at this mission when we connect our communities to help each other.
Bridging our Communities is not a new priority; it is what we have done since 1957.
Our History
The Amarillo Area Foundation’s history began in 1957 with a dream and a challenge to address the healthcare needs facing the Texas Panhandle.

Board of Directors
The Amarillo Area Foundation is the only community foundation serving Texas’ northernmost 26 counties. Since its inception in 1957 and into the future, the Foundation provides grants and services to strengthen nonprofit organizations and the services they deliver. The Foundation is enriching the Panhandle communities we call home as a result of partnerships between area philanthropists and social entrepreneurs. The Foundation is governed by a Board of private citizens dedicated to their leadership role on philanthropic, nonprofit, and community issues.
