Don & Twanna Powell

The Texas Panhandle couldn’t have better ambassadors for philanthropy than Don and Twanna Powell. Don was born in Perryton and he and Twanna received their college degrees from West Texas A&M University. Don was a leader in the banking industry in Amarillo for 40 years before serving in several capacities under President George W. Bush. Other notable accomplishments include his tenure as Chairman of the Board of the Texas A&M University System and leading a successful $50 million capital campaign for WTAMU in 2012-2014. Upon retirement, the Powell’s returned to Amarillo and are enjoying retirement with  family and friends. Don has served on numerous boards and committees across the Panhandle, and Amarillo Area Foundation is proud to count Don as a former Chairman of the Board of Directors. Don and Twanna’s confidence in the Foundation led them to AAF last year when they wanted to fund a scholarship in honor of their friends, Arthur and Hardy Fields. They watched the Fields brothers as they grew up in Amarillo and were impressed with their strong abilities and drive to succeed. Arthur and Hardy are graduates of WTAMU and then graduated at the top of their class at Baylor’s College of Dentistry. Both men now have thriving dental practices in the Dallas area and continue to live lives of exemplary character. The Arthur and Hardy Fields Endowed Scholarship was established by Don and Twanna to aid upperclassmen at WTAMU that are on a pre-dental path. Amarillo Area Foundation is honored to partner with the Powells in meeting their philanthropic goals while improving quality of life for Texas Panhandle residents.
